If you used multiplexing then tar won't work. If you didn't use MPX then you
should be able to tar off the stuff you need but make sure you are using
veritas's tar not just a generic unix tar executable.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... we had a similar problem when we
tried to import an image that spanned 2 DLT tapes. We got a huge 160 meg
file listing 96% of the files but nothing shows up as available for restore.
After much calling around veritas we were told by a senior engineer that
"that is the way it is designed". If there is a bad spot it won't do
anything with the rest of the data on the tape. :(
