Actually George,
NBU runs a single job that monitors the script and then a job per stream
sent by Oracle.
There is usually one job per table. So each table will report it's
completion. If RMAN fails, it will be notified in that particular job.
The rman utility is designed to give DBA's more control and insight into the
backup and restore jobs that effect their databases, so there are tools and
logs within Oracle that give more information on the status of a job than
does NBU.
Hope that helps,
Bob

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Orcale Backups
When saving an Oracle Database using the NetBackup provided Extension, the
backup completion status message only refers to the success of the NBU
Script that initiates the EBU/RMAN facility - right?
So when NetBackup shows a status 0 for an Oracle Backup it is only
confirming the success of the Backup script. RMAN could have failed to have
output the data to it's 'Media Manager' (in this case NetBackup), and the
backup be incomplete or non-existent.
What recomendations do you have to ensure the backup is actually complete
and successful from an RMAN point-of-view?
Can these status' be automated and brought into NetBackup or do I have to
manually monitor all RMAN logs upon backup completion?
Does Veritas have any plans to amalgamate the RMAN success status into the
NetBackup Job Monitor?
Thanks,
George
