Mike;

Couple of additional points on the configuration below -- 9490 (36Track
tape) is generally a bad choice of tape media format for open systems to use
as the tapes will get filled up far to quickly to be really useful,
especially if you're making offsite copies. The 9840's in a PH are more
useful for backup (higher density), and are the drive of choice for HSM
(high speed transfer, low seek time).

NetBackup will happily support the two technologies and utilize both as you
dictate. As you will require ACSLS (SUN/AIX) or HSC/LS (MVS) to control the
library, it would be defined to Veritas as an "ACS" type library.

NetBackup has *no* concept in this case of multiple LSM's in an ACS so *be
careful*. If your drives are split between multiple LSM's (Silo's), Scratch
tape allocation by NBU may cause excessive CEM/PTP usage (robot to robot
handoffs) which can affect overall mount time and robotic hand usage. You
may also wish to pool your tapes such that excessive CEM/PTP's don't occur
during backups or restores to media because Server A who is connected to LSM
0 requests a tape in LSM 1, and than an hour later Server B who is connected
to LSM 1 comes along and requests the tape back.

Cheers,

Mike
