1. The Utility is bpvault, it is a consulting option from VERITAS.
No it is not publicly available

2. No, you can only copy the database in it's entirety.
You could however, duplicate your tapes using
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpduplicate , take the tapes offsite and
import them into a new system, this would just know of the tapes taken to
the dark site Luke. (sorry couldn't help myself.)

There is also a duplication script under
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/duplicate_images, this is a simple script
to modify and get duplications done, for more efficient and well reported
dups you need to consult the bpvault product.

On NT reverse the slashes and replace /usr/openv with either c:\ or d:\ or
whatever:\ you use as your base for NBU.

Disaster Recovery: Moving Backup tapes from Primary Server

The whitepaper 'NetBackup Release 3.2 Technical Overview' refers to a
'NetBackup-supplied utility' (page 26) that will create a copy of the
NetBackup catalog and media database associated with the backup tapes to be
transfered from the primary server.

o What is this utility - it is not named?
    + Is it publically available?

Is there a way to create a tape from the primary system catalog which just
contains media and file database records associated with the tapes to be
moved to the dark-site?

George
