Peter,

Depending on your precise plans, these are the two main problems i've had to
overcome at customer sites to ensure that NBU works properly in a clustered
environment. I'm assuming you have tape drives connected to the master.

When NBU performs a backup it records the name of the media server against
the backup image. The problem you'll have is that when you try to restore
from an image that was backed up in domain A and your currently running in
domain B, the bpsched process will attempt to contact the media server that
performed the backup, ie domain A. To get round this you'll need to look at
the way server independent restores are setup and configure appropriately.

Another thing to look at is the definition of where the volume database
resides; again you normally spcify your master machine as the host. The
simple way to resolve this one is to specify the public address as the host.

I am setting up a Sun E10000 with HA failover to some Ex000 servers. I
would like to locate the NetBackup master on one of the E10K domains and
fail-over its functions.

I know that the bp.conf will need to be altered as the hostname will be
different, but if all the clients refer to the server via the public
interface they should be OK.

Has anyone done this or have ideas about the problems which may be
encountered?

Thanks in advance,
Peter
