Thanks for all your help. Here's what I did so far.

- Freeze all tapes that have media ID of A0000X. I guess I can delete them
from the MM GUI when the images have expired.
- Create a new barcode rule called <NONE>. Set the media type to "default",
volume pool "none" in the barcode rule.
- To test, I took a unlabeled tape (no barcode) and put it in the Tape
Library. When I inventoried the robot it recognized the unlabeled tape as
type DLT. The Media manager assigned it media ID A00010 to it and put it in
the "none" volume pool. Is this behavior correct? Should the tape have been
assigned a media ID at all? Since the tape hasn't been acquired by a
particular strorage unit yet, there shouldn't be an entry in any media
catalog. So if I were to eject the tape from the library and simply delete
it from the volume database (using the MM GUI), that should be it as far as
getting it out of the system right?

Thanks in advance.

Vik.

One more suggestion, just to show how flexible NetBackup is. Duplicate the
tape, change the primary copy, expire the original tape, delete from media
manager, put a new label on the tape, re-inventory the robot. Be sure to do
like Curtis says and put the <NONE> bar code rule in.

Of course that is just my opinion, I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller.

          DO NOT BPLABEL THEM!

Ok now that, that is out of the way. bplabel would write
over the header
information changing the structure of the tape and void any
images on that
          tape.

Your best bet is to freeze the tapes

          bpmedia -ev A00001 -freeze

this way the images expire, when the images expire remove
the tape from
Media Manager control, by deleting it from the Media Manager
GUI, it won't
let you do that till the images are expired.

Then put the new barcode on it and bplabel it.

          Hope hat helps,

          Bob

          All,
We have a robotic tape library and the tapes are labeled by
veritas
according to the barcode label. For some strange reason
there are a few
tapes added to the library recently that took a different
naming scheme. In
the Media manager utility, the barcode column for these
tapes shows a
blank. I am thinking that the robot could not read these
tapes so media
manager gave it a RVSN according to the default scheme.

I am prepared to put a new barcode label and try again,
however the tapes
have valid backups on them. So my question is, if I bplabel
the tape with
the same number as the new barcode label, will it mess
anything up? Or is
there a better way to fix this? The barcode label that the
robot wasn't
able to read (I'm assuming thats the problem) seems fine and
legible.

          Thanks for your help!
