In general, this is not possible.

You are right that the 'context-independent recovery of files' could be 
implemented but i think EMC will refuse to do so. The result would be files 
with no access restrictions which means that data could be stolen. And this 
must be avoided. BTW this is also the reason why you are unable to recover 
Windows files to UNIX/Linux systems and vice-versa.
