In fact you can export/import the media DB using nsrmmdbasm -s/-r . But this is 
a backup/restore function. It does what it is - it will overwriting existing 
files files.
What you are looking for is a merge function. 

I have never tested this but i am pretty sure that scanner is the only method 
to do this.
