You can get more details by checking the nsrtask.raw log file. But i agree, 
there should be notifications as well.

We are using our own specific information system:
  - every 30 mins, a job runs which extracts the last 30mins events from the 
daemon.raw file
  - this will be checked for certain trigger word(s)
  - if so, it will take some action (email or sms or similar)

We use that to inform us if DB log backups (key backups) have failed.
Of course you could also check the nsrtask.raw file with this general procedure.
