Yes they are defined. We have a fairly recent device driver with persistent
binding. I can't remember the version as I am now at home.
More info:
Windows 2003 SP2
IBM LTO3 drives
ADIC I2K libraries.

Do you have the persistent bindings setup in the registry?

Subject: [Networker] Win2k3 tape drives need 'rescan disks' to work
Hi All,
I have inherited a windows based backup system. When the backup server and
storage nodes are rebooted for the monthly patching they reboot fine and
report NO ERRORS.
All drivers are loaded and services are started. When trying to verify the
tape labels in ANY of the LTO3 drives we get unknown file error......
I have to go to Disk Management on every single server with tape drives
attached (24 all together) and 'rescan disks' to initiate some kind of
reset. Only then do the drives work correctly again. I have raised this
with
Microsoft and am awaiting a response. I was wondering if anyone else had
seen the same thing before.
Thanks
