In regard to: Re: [Networker] Recycle/delete old save sets?, Dsouza,...:

That is correct. If the data that you are trying to delete is on a tape
then only relabling the tape destroys the data else you can always get
it back by scanning the tapes.

This is true. If you have savesets on a tape that you need to get rid of
and savesets on that tape that you need to keep, then you should clone the
keepers to a different volume and relabel the original volume.

But in case ypu have the data on a AFTD
then the data on the device gets deleted once you remove its reference
from the media database.

Really? I thought the savesets weren't physically deleted until "nsrstage
-C" was executed?

We have a client that is supposed to be decommissioned shortly. The
owners have asked us to delete all stored data older than 1 month.

...You use the nsrmm command to delete the savesets. For example:

  nsrmm -d -S ssid/cloneid...

small clarification:
nsrmm manpage states, that
" -d Deletes the client file indexes and media database
         entries from the NetWorker databases.
...
...
The action does not destroy the volume: instead, it
removes all references used by NetWorker to the volume
and the user files contained on it. This option can be
used to control the size of the NetWorker databases."

i.e. by running `nsrmm -dy -S ssid/cloneid` you will not delete the
actual saveset, but only it's reference in NW media DB
