I've had tape pools with mixed LTO2 and LTO3 media, and all LTO3 drives - I 
have yet to have a problem, and I'm pretty sure that in the last two years that 
some large savesets have spanned across different media types.

During disaster recovery drills we recovered data from these mixed tape pools 
without issue.
