[Networker] NMS - upgrade path dead end

Hi gang,

I was trying to upgrade to the new NMDA for our Sybase servers as it isreplacing NMS. I ran into a snag as our version of Sybase (12.x) is notsupported for NMDA. Still we got it mostly working but not completely sowe needed to back track to NMS v3.0 again as we're in the sloooowprocess of phasing out Sybase and have no plans to upgrade to any otherversion of Sybase including 15.x at all.

As such I need to run the NMS module for the next couple of years atleast (I said slooooow did I not?) but will eventually find it'sbreaking point and need to resort to backing up disk dumps instead ofusing this nice module we paid a lot of money to use.

I need to upgrade our backup server SW soon and am trying to figure outwhen an upgrade will break the license keys or SW for our 2 NMSinstalls. I would like to know ahead of time to have some warning beforeit happens. It may also allow me to pick the right version to upgrade tothat gives us the longest use of NMS. I'll likely leave the old 7.4.4client on these 2 boxes as well and only upgrade our backup server andother clients.

EMC support has been far less than helpful in this regard and despitereading Release notes many times, I never seem to find any notes aboutlicense changes when upgrading to a newer version of Networker. PerhapsI'm missing something but Release Notes seem to be mostly bug fixes andnew features and little to nothing about license changes.

Currently we are running Networker 7.4.4 on the backup server and clienton our Sybase boxes. All Solaris 10 Sparc boxes and NMS version 3.0.

Is anyone out there running NMS with a newer version of the Networkerserver? If so what version are you running? 7.5.x? 7.6.x?


Isn't unsupported SW fun?
