[Networker] Using scanner to recover a bootstrap or index?
2010-01-11 19:25:59
Hi,
If you have a bootstrap backup on both original tape and a clone copy,
can you run the scanner command, with 'uasm', against each tape to
extract the bootstrap saveset to disk in order to ensure that both
copies are the same? Or will this not work when extracting special
savesets like bootstraps or client file indexes?
I've done this on the storage node, and this works fine on normal save
sets wherein I can subsequently run an MD5 checksum listing against each
recovered directory that I previously extracted via scanner/uasm and
then compare the output of the two to prove that both the original and
clone copy are the same, but I'm unclear what would happen if you tried
this on a save set like a client index or a bootstrap?
I don't wanna try it and have something bad happen wherein the server
thinks I'm trying to actually recover the bootstrap to replace the
current one?
Thanks.
George
