Re: [Networker] LTO4 Labels : Purchase or Home-made ?

Hi Thierry,
As always your solutions work perfectly!
I've used your Excel/TTF and I've generated some test barcodes and
printed them using an Epson AcuLaser C4200 in adhesive paper.
After that I've cut the label by the inside of the border line (so the
border line isn't in the final label).
I've attached the label to one of my tapes (Fujifilm) and it's a little
larger than the label place (0,5-1mm) so, after sticking the label, I've
used a cutter to cut this small line. Now the label is just inside the
placeholder in the tape.
I've put the tape in the I/E slot of my Quantum and voilà! The Scaler
i500 recognizes the code without read problems ;-)
Thank you very much!

Subject: [Networker] LTO4 Labels : Purchase or Home-made ?
Hello,
With our old SDLT-320 library (a Qualstar one) we used to print our
labels using a program called "Batch Barcode Maker". These home-made
labels worked perfectly.
Now, we've changed our library to LTO-4 (a Quantum Scalar i500) and the
commercials said to us that we must purchase the labels because its
quality is better for the reader.
In the Quantum User's Guide we can read (p. 361) the following:
Quantum-supplied barcode labels provide the best results. Barcode labels
from other sources can be used, but they must meet the following
requirements:
- ANSI MH10.8M-1983 Standard
- Number of digits: 5 to 16 (default for LTO is 6+2)
- Background reflection: greater than 25 percent
- Print contrast: greater than 75 percent
- Ratio: greater than 2.2
- Module: minimum .254 mm (10 mil)
- Print tolerance: ± 57 mm
Additional Requirements:
- Length of the rest zones: 5.25 mm ± 0.25 mm
- No black marks should be present in the intermediate spaces or rest
zones
- No white areas should be present on the bars
So, if we print our labels in adhesive paper, do we will have any
problem with the library? Are some of you using custom labels? Can we
use all the chars in Code 39? (for example, can we have a tape labeled
like "HIS050"?).
I'm asking this because the labels aren't cheap :-( ... and I would like
to know what are you doing with the labels for your LTO4 tapes.
Thank you very much.
