Here is the recap of this issue:

What we have seen across our production and a clean test environment was:

Server:

Sun T5140 running Solaris 10 sparc 5/08.
Legato Networker 7.5 build 179

Client:

Sun X4150 running Solaris 10 x86 10/08
Legato Networker 7.5.Build 315

I can backup Sparc based clients no problem. When try an X86 machine I get the following:

savegrp: suppressed 2 lines of verbose output
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/reloc/share/man/zh/man5/resource.5
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/reloc/share/man/zh/man5/
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/reloc/share/man/zh/
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/reloc/share/man/
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/reloc/share/
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/reloc/
/export/home/systems/LGTOzh/
/export/home/systems/
39078:save: RPC error: Server can't decode arguments (severity 5, number 11)

7162:save: save of /export/home/systems to backup01 failed

I have tried this on both a Sun X4150 (intel) and an X4540 (amd). Same error. On a sparc T5140 it completes. As well as on an sparc M5000 it completes.

The test environment ruled out switches, firewalls, and past configuration variables.

I then upgraded the test environment to 7.5 sp 1 on the server and clients.

The save worked perfectly across the same machines that previously failed. I was also able to add an x86 based storage node and send backups to it.

No hosts files or configuration changes were made during the upgrade. It literally worked after doing the pkgrm/pkadd commands followed by /etc/init.d/netoworker start; /etc/init.d/gst start

Any ideas?
