If I run 'notreadonly' and go to nwadmin > Media > Volumes..., it no
longer has the (R), but under the Mode column there's a blank (i.e., not
appendable), and under the Expiration column there's a "-". The save sets
are all "recyclable".
I then apply the "recyclable" command, and it goes back to being (R) as
well as "recyc" and "expired". All the savesets also have a status of
"recyclable".
All the volumes are listed as "full" under the %Used column in both cases.

Sure, though I think my end goal is mostly to have tapes recycled
automatically. I would have thought that this occurred automatically as
stuff expired, but that seems not to be the case for some reason.

Hmm. I think my main question would be why the the read-only mode is being
enabled on volumes.

This is 7.2.1.Build.311 Network Edition/47 on Red Hat Linux.
Which is a bit old, but as we're about to upgrade things relatively soon,
I don't want to fool around with. I just want to have things run more
smoothly than they are now, so when I come in the morning, I don't have a
bunch of "Unsuccessful Save Sets" due to lack of tapes. :)
