It's a bad, bad, bad file descriptor leak. During debugging I had as few as 8 
clients and it still dropped core with 4096 file descriptors configured.

Just out of curiosity, how many clients are in the savegroups that  
core dumps? Perhaps some relief can be achieved by breaking up those  
troublesome savegroups into smaller savegroups.
