I'm sure it does, but it also removes any benefits of compression that you get on the tape drive (or even the client). It also kills any dedupe functionality in VTLs.

There's a trade-off that needs to be made between security and resource usage, and the trade-off is not necessary.

The 'aes' ASM is a useful and important feature to know about, but a short-term kludge IMHO. Perhaps in 7.6 (8.0?).
