I was unhappy about a couple of things. Firstly I was unhappy about the
way that nwadmin was replaced by a very buggy NMC with no overlap
period. Secondly I was unhappy about the reliance on Java and the need
for particular versions of Java. At the time I was working in an
environment where firewalls were common and this caused a whole load of
headaches when NMC is in the picture.
I really miss nwadmin (the Unix version), and would like to have it back
(supported). I have to begrudgingly admit that NMC is better than
nwadmin for some things, but for others I still prefer nwadmin. One
benefit is that the GUI is the same for Unix and Windows, which I
suppose is why Java was chosen. I never liked the old Windows GUI so I
suppose I prefer NMC to that.
Of course NMC was not the only major change to come with 7.3. It seemed
that there were many major architectural changes (such as new daemons
and internal databases) at what was supposedly only a minor version
increment. I still don't understand why 7.3 wasn't numbered 8.0, at
least that would have warned us all what was in store.
