Matt,
Assuming they've implemented it like /etc/mnttab, then it's a loop-back filesystem. From NetWorker's point of view, the actual end point (mnttab, or sharetab) should still be a file, so setting a directive on the parent directory ought to allow the "file" within that directory to be skipped.
Interested to hear how your testing goes.
Will

host:user (325)$ df -k /etc/mnttab
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
mnttab 0 0 0 0% /etc/mnttab

host:user (326)$ file /etc/mnttab
/etc/mnttab: ascii text
host:user (327)$

sharetab used to be a file, it's now a "sharefs" filesystem like procfs. I'll
give it a try. We may need both.

Hi Matt,
That wouldn't be anything as simple as:
<< /etc/dfs >>
skip: sharetab

...would it? (sharetab is a "file", not a directory)

In a later release of Solaris 10, Sun now has a new filesystem
"sharefs":
<mhuff@enif> df -hl -F sharefs
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
sharefs                  0K     0K     0K     0%    /etc/dfs/sharetab

Legato tries to back it up. I have a global directive:

<< /etc/dfs/sharetab >>
    +skip: * .?*

but I still get:

* enif:/etc/dfs/sharetab Reverse DNS lookup failed for address
0.0.0.0
V enif: /etc/dfs/sharetab level=full, 7 KB 00:01:39 4 files
* <WARNING> : Warning - `/etc/dfs/sharetab' changed during save

during the savegroup

what am I missing?
