It has come to my attention that there appears to be an issue with NW
7.4.3 running on a physical Windows 2008 machine, where device detection
(and thus inquire and the dvdetect process that identifies attached
devices) hangs.

We initially saw this on a customers Windows 2008 server that was to be
the backup server. Testing on a virtual machine yielded no issues, but
the problem was easily reproduced on a physical lab machine.

A case was opened with EMC and finally after about 6 weeks, they decided
that my test scenarios were accurate and they also had a hanging inquire
issue on their physical machine. This was after they had claimed that
they have seen NW 7.4.3 work in all kinds of Windows 2008 environments
with many brands of HBA, etc.

So it appears that even though W2K8 is listed as a potential server and
storage node platform with NW 7.4.3 - it was only tested in a virtual
environment. Nice to know some of the QA testing regimes.
