Well, it does -- because using -R says that NetWorker should already
know about the tape and just recycle it. Since NetWorker doesn't yet
realize the pool the tape is a member of (as the existing volume label
is not represented in the nsrjb -C output), it can't really recycle it
out of that pool into the one you request (I realize you are likely
recycling it into the same pool -- but NetWorker can't know that).
Actually, we aren't recycling in to the same pool necessarily - we have
two pools which are parallel, used for redundancy, with the same
expiration, etc. So we aren't terribly concerned about keeping them in
the same pool.
What appeared to happen before when I gave the recycle command was that
it took the partly-unknown tape, verified the label, updated the
inventory, and then recycled it anyways. It doesn't recycle it now :(
