man erase on my 7.3.3 linux system says the syntax is

erase [ -sr ] -a b.t.l

The '-a b.t.l' is what tells it which tape drive to use... It looks like inquire will also tell you that b.t.l so you can associate it with the proper tape drive.... If you mess it up and erase the wrong tape.... you get to keep both useless tapes ;-)

Problem is, they do not give any example showing how to specify the
device, but it states the device is required...   Networker
documentation needs more examples IMHO !!!
