Hello,
Details are sketchy but the way i understand is that

VCB PROXY SERVER:
San attached to the same vmdatastores that vm server are using, is an
windows 2003 based server with appropriate service packs.
VCB software is installed here ( vcb proxy server)
VCB software talks to VM via vmanager ( Vcenter) software.
A script may need to run here to create snapshot (leveraging VCB
integration) from each virtual machines and mounts it somewhere i.e
D:\MNT\vmclientname\saveset name on proxy server.
File or Full image backups are kicked off on VCB proxy server depending on
Legato client configuration.
second script will kick off once backups are completed to clean up the mnt
points once the backup are finished.
If VCB proxy server is also Legato storage node, backups can stay lan
free.
Appropriate Networker client may need to be installed and configured
with proper saveset on the vm guest
Latest vmtools will be invoked by vcb to create snapshots of vm guests, so
this tools should be up-to-date
Adequate space should be allocated to VCB Proxy server to mount the file
systems.
There may be VCB config file that need to be modified based on if using
VCenter or individual VM server to configure backup ( i.e need to specify
Virtual Center server name & user name password)
Since VCB method of backup is similar with other backup products, until
EMC gives us comprehensive direction, you may get considerable guidance
looking at how other backup vendors are dealing with this and their
guides, i found one on Comvault which was very useful.
HTH
