In regard to: [Networker] Problem backing up a Linux client, Stan Horwitz...:

I have a strange problem with NetWorker 7.4SP2 and a 7.4SP1 client. Both server and client are Red Hat Linux. This client was backing up fine until Sept. 12th. Then all of a sudden, it fails and I get errors in the savegroup report that look like ...

Have the administrator take a look at the appropriate up2date log file
(assuming they're using the default log file rotation for up2date log
files, it's probably /var/log/up2date.2 at this point) in /var/log. It's
likely that some package was automatically updated via Red Hat Network
some time on the 11th or before the backups on the 12th.

permission denied, `root' on `client.temple.edu' must have remote access privilege to client backup_server.temple.edu.

Is there any chance that someone accidentally installed additional lgto
RPMs on the client?

Why would the backup need remote access on the server's client resource? I tried going that, but I still get the same error message. I checked the /etc/hosts file on this client and its fine.

You may also want to look for files that are recent that have endings of

        .rpmorig
        .rpmnew
        .rpmsave

e.g.

sudo find /etc -type f -mtime -14 \( -name '*.rpmorig' -o -name '*.rpmsave' -o -name '*.rpmnew' \) -ls

Unfortunately, neither of those suggestions panned out either. I also just tried reinstalling the NetWorker client software and I deleted and created the client entry again. No success there either.
