This week I upgraded our 7.2.2-jumbo, which is x86 and already running
on w2k3 R2 SP2 X64, to 7.4SP2 x64.
Roughly I performed these steps (aka these are not complete and may need
be different on your site!):
- check the database and indexes:
 - nsrim -X
 - nsrck -m
 - nsrck -L6
- savegrp -O -l full -G <yourgroup> (where <yourgroup> contains all your
clients) to get a recent bootstrap and indexes save.
- stopped Networker services
- copied C:\Program Files (x86)\Legato\nsr to another location (just to
be sure :p
- removed 7.2 via controlpanel (via change, not remove)
- renamed the remaining sub-dirs as to make them 'invisible' to the 7.4
installer.
- installed 7.4SP2 x64, which goes into C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr
- discovered our ST L40
- mounted the tape which contained the bootstrap and indexes via nsrjb
-lnv -S <slotnr> -f \\.\<tapedevice>
- ran mmrecov, which restored the lot in C:\Program Files
(x86)\Legato\nsr again.
- in contradiction to the 'Disaster Recovery Guide 7.4SP1' mmrecov DOES
run nsrmmdbasm
- I could not figure out the syntax for uasm to recover the resource
files. Finaly got around this by
 - stopping the legato services
 - renaming C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\res\nsrdb
 - copying the C:\Program Files (x86)\Legato\nsr\res\nsrdb to C:\Program
Files\Legato\nsr\res\nsrdb
 - starting the legato services
- nsrck -L7 (to recover your indexes)
- Et voila, Networker 7.4SP2 :)

I suggest you at least read these pdfs which can be found at
https://support.emc.com/products/NetWorker.aspx
- 300-007-011 Technical Guidance for upgrades to 7.4 sp2.pdf
- 300-005-506 Networker 7.4 SP1 DR guide.pdf
- 300-005-505 Commandline Ref 7.4 SP1.pdf (mmrecov syntax)
- Networker 7.4 SP1 Installation Guide.pdf (which describes (in general)
the upgrade procedure)

Good luck!
