Dear all

I'm new to the list and the archives didn't really throw up anything
meaningful for me. I am not the NSR administrator, but a slightly
concerned Exchange Admin working with my backups team to get this
sorted. Please bear with me!

First, is anyone here performing backups of their Exchange 2007 servers hosted on Windows Server 2008? Using this combination, I can run backups
manually from the Exchange server, but from the NSR end it's
consistently failing. The Exchange module is, as far as we all know,
properly licensed, and we have no issues with our existing Exchange
2003/Server 2003 servers.

Second, the small amount of logs generated thus far are unreadable.
Example of the beginning of a backup:

43708 1219745286 1 0 0 5588 5664 0 <hostname> nsrxchsv 14 Start time: %s
1 35 25 Tue Aug 26 11:08:06 2008

What does all this mean? Since the files have a .RAW extension, I think
I'll be needing some sort of parser. What am I missing?

You do need a parser, but its available on your exchange server. Open up a command line window and cd into NSR's log directory and type something like "nsr_render_log -B -30 daemon.raw" also, there's another log file that might be worth looking at called applog.log, but its all text so you can look at it via notepad.

Also, look in the event logs at the time of the failure and shortly prior to the failure to see if anything turns up, then insist that your NetWorker guy contact EMC to open up a tech support call if he or she doesn't find the logged error messages helpful in solving this problem. It also seems to me that your NetWorker administrator should be taking a more active role in working with you to solve this problem.
