Where is that procedure documented?

No response necessary.

Here's what Tech Support, in their infinitesimal .. errr ... infinite ..

.wisdom, finally came back and told me ...

Here is what you need to do. Unfortunately, you need to scan the tape
twice. The first time will create the ~client_id entry in the media
database with the old clientid. After that, you need to create the
client
with NMC using the format of ~client_name-1. NW should associate
~client_name-1 with the old clientid automatically. Once this done
follow
normal directed restore procedures.

This some verbiage that?s from engineering:

what scanner will do in this situation - If a client of the same name
already exists then it will automatically create client names of the
form
~client_name-1 in the media database and associate them with the old
client IDs. Therefore the customer must create a new client of this
name.
It will automatically be created with the old client ID. Then the user
must run 'scanner -i' again to get the correct index information for
that
client. Once this is done the user can get the data from the tape via a
directed recover.

Mind you, this is after *2* other Tech Support people told me I needed
to
rename my server back to the old name; do an mmrecov, else I wouldn't be

able to see the clients as a restorable source ...
