In regard to: [Networker] gconsole.jnlp problem, Yard, John said (at 3:59pm...:

I am trying to bring up the Legato nmc
on moxilla firefox on AIX 5.3 . and get this
message :

The file gconsole.jnlp is of
application/x-java-jnlp-file file type,
and Mozilla does not how to handle this file type.

You need to add an application association to firefox, associating the
type

        application/x-java-jnlp-file

with Java web start (javaws).

How do I resolcve this ?

If you can download the file "gconsole.jnlp" to your AIX system, you can
execute it with the "javaws" command, which should be installed somewhere
under your java runtime environment (jre) directory. In a terminal
window, just type

        /path/to/your/jre/bin/javaws gconsole.jnlp

If you *can't* download the file, it might mean that your firefox doesn't
have the Java plugin loaded. In that case, you'll need to make a symbolic
link from wherever the plugin is on your system to the plugins directory
for firefox.

The procedure for making the symbolic link is covered in the Installation
Guide for NetWorker 7.4.x, in the section where it talks about installing
NMC.
