Mark,
with release 7.3 and up, additional new backupserver and storagenode licenses has been introduced. Here is an example for the European prices based on Euro, but the relation should be the same for USD based pricing as well:

Storage Node für UNIX Network Edition (traditional Sol./Sparc) 8.871 Euro
Storage Node für Solaris x64/x86 Network Edition 2.464 Euro

As you see, the Sol.x64 plattform licenses are much less expensive which makes this platform even more interesting when looking at NetWorker license costs.

We have been using the X4500 storage server in many projects as storagenode without problems. The Solaris x64 as storagenode is a supported plattform (they have even special licenses for it), and the X4500 is a regular AMD CPU based system, not more, not less. I can not imagine any reason why EMC telling it not being supported. I would not lose any sleep over this either :-)

Attila,

Can you tell us more about the "special licenses". Do the X4500's not license under a standard Unix Storage Node license?

Thanks,

Mark
