Guess what? I just received notification from EMC with exactly the same recommendation and upon testing it, I find that it works. I am now able to recover data from my advanced file type device while it is receiving back up data. Unfortunately, EMC also informed me that they do not support an X4500 with Solaris x86 as a NetWorker 7.4 Storage Node. I have been using my X4500 as a storage node since late October and I have recovered several terabytes worth of data off it (both tape and disk), so I am not going to lose any sleep over this, but those who are considering purchasing an X4500 for use as a Storage Node may want to factor that into your decision.

Stan,

I asked EMC directly if they supported the Networker 7.4 on Solaris x86 and I got back a no as well. I then realized it should be Solaris x64 which runs on the x4500s. When I asked them if they support it on that platform I got back an affirmative. Sun also lists the storage node packages for Solaris x64 on page 6 (table 2-1) of it's Enterprise Backup Software 7.4 Roadmap quide. ( http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/820-0707-10/820-0707-10.pdf ) You can see in this table that the storage node is not listed on x86 (32 bit) but is on x64. Therefore; I think you should push back to EMC to clarify indicating Solaris10 x64.

FYI,
Jon
