Since you have 6 drives, and you bought 6 DDS licenses, yes.

The nice thing about this license, is if you decide to get another SN,
or go with a Dedicated storage node, the DDS covers it for as many
SN/DSN's as you want.

Thanks Peter. I guess first things first. I have to configure the
brocade and present the drives to the SN. Am I correct in understanding
with DDS I will be able to use any available drive on the SN and Master
server?

Ok - so you installed the software on the storage node - good start...
It may seem an obvious thing, but worth mentioning that you must be
using the same version of software on both hosts...

Next thing that also fairly obvious - ensure server is in the servers
file of the storage node. restart networker if you change this.

Now - tricky bit - I infer from your short email update that you want
to configure extra devices on a jukebox that is already controlled by
the main server? And use DDS?

To do this you need to run jbconfig from the main server - eg the one
that will control the library... Because you are moving to shared
config it's best to re-do the library config from scratch - although you
can use jbedit if you're already sharing them...

Anyway - what you want is a jukebox defined with 12 device paths,
you'll be typing in device names such as rd=snodehostname:/dev/rmt/3cbn
for device 3cbn on snodehostname or just /dev/rmt/3cbn for the path to
that drive from the main server...

Before you start you should take the time to get the devices having
consistent names - eg 3cbn on one host should be called 3cbn on the
other - not essential, but less headaches thinking about it.

Yeah.. 6 DDS licenses 1 storage node license plus the obvious stuff.
STK SL500 with 6 LTO3 drives... very under powered... All fiber. I
have some configuring to do I guess... NSRJB connects to the master
server but then comes up with the not registered and then the prompt...

You basically have 3 steps.

1. USE nsrjb to configure your storage node so that the storage node can
see the library & tape devices.

2. update the servers file on each client that you want to go through
the new storage node (don't forget to stop/start networker service on
the client).

3. update the field in each client on the backup server. Look under
preferences under client management. You should see the field name of
storage node. You should add the new storage node name on top of the
nsrserverhost default.

After that, you should be able to backup through your storage node.

Some notes -
This is only for a storage node, not a dedicated storage node.
If you intend to share drives, you must have also bought drive sharing
licenses from Legato.

How do I setup a storage node? Node software was installed [solaris 10,
sun V215 4 gigs mem etc] Whats next? I try to connect to it via
nwadmin [7.3.3] My single server is being hammered and thus the SNode.
Licenses are all set.....
