Dag -- thanks for your reply. I wanted to do a manual save from a Windows client of the SYSTEM* savesets, where I could keep an eye on the log of files being backed up before replying back. It does not look like files in the C:\Windows\WinSxS directory get picked up when doing a back up of any of the following savesets in Windows:

C:
SYSTEM FILES:
SYSTEM STATE:
SYSTEM DB:
ASR:

So I am back to square one...
Any other ideas?

TIA,
Andrew

We run NetWorker 7.4 under Solaris 10 to backup a number of Windows 2003 machines (among others). When attempting a full restore of the C:\ drive from one of those machines following the instructions set forth in the Disaster Recovery Guide, we discovered that a number of key files (mostly .dll and .sys files) in C:\Windows\WinSxS are never picked up by the backup process. The directory structure is the only thing being backed up, but none of the files in that folder.
......
The question is -- does anyone know why none of these files can ever get backed up by NetWorker? Does anyone know of a workaround?

They will be picked up by the (Microsoft specified) SYSTEM* savesets
and thus automatically skipped during normal file backup.
