If we required (or strongly encouraged) bottom posting, then some people
might just not post, and we don't want that, right?

I personally think that's a specious argument with plenty of
counter-arguments, but ultimately my opinion on this issue doesn't
matter.

Since Stan runs the list and Temple hosts it, I think it's a decision for
the folks at Temple.

I know that when I ask a question on a mailing list, I do everything I can
think of to make it easy for someone to read my question and try help me
solve the problem I'm asking about. If I make it too hard for someone
to use a bit of their spare time (which is always a very scarce and
valuable commodity) to help me out, then I've just reduced the chances
that I'm going to get help with my problem.

In the past several months, there were plenty of posts to this
list that I've just glanced at and then deleted without trying to help,
primarily because it wasn't going to be easy to read. Top-posting
often figured into that decision.
