Evening all,
As part of our Server upgrade plan, we're going to convert back to only one
drive type (LTO-2) and remove AlphaStor. Though I have mixed feelings about
this, the reasons are outside the scope of my questions (though the fact that
its not sold/supported through Sun is a contributing factor).
Unfortunately it's been so long that I've got some logistics questions about
library interaction (that aren't 100% clear in the manuals):
1) We have a storage node that is setup as a dedicated environment for a
client. Originally, AS resource queues were used to segregate the pools out.
Reviewing the settings and scripting makes me reasonably certain that this will
not be an issue (specifying this one system for its client's storage node,
etc), but would appreciate confirmation.
2) Due to the way AS works, I've been able to mount individual tapes using the
-T argument to nsrjb, rather than specifying slots. This still appears to be
possible by just removing -T (we do this one tape at a time for cloning), but
what are the potential risks involved as apposed to using slot numbers (which
is what we used to do before AS)?
3) I would like to keep something akin to AlphaStor's import 'bonus' feature,
where (even if the tape is not labeled) the barcode is listed within the nsrjb
-Cv output. I can't begin to estimate the value this one feature in AS has in
our environment.
Alternatively, I could probably live with a simple (and free) tape-tracking
environment where I can easily determine what barcode is where - including
unlabeled tapes (which I keep in-library as emergency spares).
I would rather not re-invent the wheel, so if something like either format is
available somewhere (even in NMC, which I intend to test against the old Server
before upgrading it to 7.4.x), it would help tremendously. The main feature
involved is easy import/export that a non-root user can do (or can do
'hands-off' via sudo.
-----
The current Server/SN software is Sun EBS 7.1.3, which we'll eventually upgrade
to 7.4.1 (I hope, depending on when Sun releases its patch version of EMC's
upgrade).
Thanks in Advance,
