We have this happen all the time with our backups through the firewall,
mostly on FULL backup save sets. Incremental backups seem to work ok.
I've tried playing with the timeout factor, but that hasn't helped.
It's basically 2 full saves, and we would love to get rid of the 1
extra, so if you know of any fixes, please pass them along. We have
just learned to live with it, since it's only a couple of small servers.

Hans,

I have seen this when at the end of the backup the client fails to
indicate to Networker that it is finished. So if you have a retry count
set to 2 than you get two sets. In some cases it was permission related,
in other cases it was Network/Firewall related. The Firewall closed the
control ports over which flows backup status information. Networker
establishes these connections when the backup starts and keeps them open
for the duration of the backup. If the connections are dropped than the
end result is a resending of the same data. You may see messages
indicating that the backup failed but if you fire up the client you are
able to browse the backed up data. You can also see the data on the
volume used for backup.

What flags do you see on the savesets? "ca" maybe?

Thanks,

Dana

Subject: double FULL savesets from vmware client

Hi,

Having trouble with 3 vmware clients. Looks like i get double savesets
when
the full backup runs. We are running Networker 7.1.4 on both VM-clients
(3)
and Backupserver. OS are win 2003.

Any suggestions?

Hans
