[Networker] Backing up data in branch offices
2008-01-16 04:39:23
We ran across a variant of this problem several years ago; Because of it I now
have a second instance of Networker (at 6.1.3) that I couldn't upgrade for
budget reasons. Thankfully its non-critical and is going away.
If you lose network connectivity to the remote Storage Node, the only thing
major that happens is any backups or recoveries 'pointing' to that node will
not work. Index data is kept centrally on your local Server, so that is not an
issue.
As long as you're not doing anything else backup-wise on the Node and you can
go a night or two without backup at the site (telco issues can get hairy
sometimes), it's not a bad thing IMHO.
If you go the route I did (somewhat under duress), you'll need to make sure
that you can budget for two NW Server upgrades instead of one each time around,
or be willing to keep the remote site and its clients at the lower rev.
