Yes I understand all of that. I do not see me migrating to networker 7.4
and cloning has never been a smooth running process. I find it easier to
send off a full with indexes and bootstrap and all client data on one
set of tapes and another onsite for local recovery.

Aaron,

I think you're going about this all wrong.  You should be cloning tapes
from your onsite pool to your offsite pool, not running the backups
twice. 

See the man page for nsrclone.  With 7.4, you can now have different
retention periods for different pools.
