In my NetWorker 7.4 environment, I have a need for two features with regard to NDMP 3 backups. I use NDMP to back up five Mirapiont message stores. These are not NAS devices, but they do use NDMP for backups. The server that hosts the email account I am using to send this message is one of those Mirapoint servers.

First off, since I am using NDMP to back up exclusively email (I do not use NDMP to back up any OS configuration files), we have a lot of spam sitting on our servers despite throwing our best effort at spam reduction. What I am wondering is if those of you who use NDMP to back up NAS devices can tell me something about how your NDMP clients con be configured. What I want to know is if you have the option to do selective backups (where you can than recover individual folders or files on your NAS device) and put in an NSR directive of some sort to skip certain types of directories. I want to skip backing up the junk mail and trash can for every user's account. Does your NDMP allow for skip directives.

Secondly, on my NetWorker 7.4 server (its a Sun T2000 with Solaris 10), I notice that all the NetWorker related processes appear to run on the same processor. My T2000 has 32 cores. When the indexing processes for my NDMP backups begin, one of the processors always drops down to the low teens in CPU idle time and when this happens, responsiveness from the rest of NetWorker slows to a crawl even though TOP shows hardly any system usage overall. So what I would like to do is spread those nsrndmp processes out across the other 31 cores and hopefully, it will allow the rest of NSR to run better. Is this possible? If so, how? If its not possible, I am definitely going to put in an RFE with EMC for it, although I won't hold my breath waiting for them to respond.
