[Networker] NW Volume Recycling Question
2007-11-26 20:55:01
Alright, if I follow the explanation, then the below example is correct:
There is a dependency between savesets that impacts when a saveset will move
from recoverable to recyclable. Consider this example:
Two pools: Daily and Weekly
Two groups: Daily and Weekly
Daily: incr backups of /home
Weekly: full backups of /home
The browse and retention periods are set to 4 days for the Daily group and 1
week for the Weekly group.
Day 1 - Full backup is made
Day 2 - Incr -> depends on the Full
Day 3 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr
Day 4 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr
Day 5 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr
Day 6 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr; Day 2 Incr is recoverable
Day 7 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr; Day 3 Incr is recoverable
Day 8 - Full backup is made; Day 1 Full is recyclable; Days 2-4 Incr is
recyclable;
Day 9 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr; Day 5 Incr is recyclable
Day 10 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr; Day 6 Incr is recyclable
Day 11 - Incr -> depends on the prior Incr; Day 7 Incr is recyclable
Day 12 - Cycle repeats.
With this setup, it's not until Day 11 that all savesets from the week become
recyclable and thus the volume becomes recyclable.
