No, as long as you can resolve the names from client & the server. ( long 
and short ).
Is your backup server multihomed ( two different nics, two ip's) ? 
depending on your configuration, you may have to specify interface setting 
on client attribute.
make sure your licensing is upto date  & if you are using any hosts file, 
allow\deney file etc that it's configured properly.
Lastly, check your alias setting ( on the client attribute)  to make sure 
it's reflective of proper naming for the client.
