Hello,
Please backup from the client\server  with extra vvv switches, via cmd 
line, check the deamon\eventvwr messages.
Make sure, you do not have duplicate IP address in the host file and 
reverse look up are all working.
Any chance SP2 for W3K went in recently, if not what other windows patches 
were applied recently?
Check the servers file on the client and make sure you list all known 
alias for this client.
