Re: [Networker] verify media using networker

Hi Mark
In my experience, the best way to verify a tape is to clone it. The nice
side-effect of this is that you get that additional copy, so your backup data
can be in more than one place at once. Plus, in later versions of NetWorker,
every copy of a saveset can have a different retention period. So, you could
expire the copy of your onsite backup data fairly quickly, while having a
longer expiration period for the offsite copy of your backup data.
The only other options would be to actually restore the data, or to use the
'scanner' utility (using the mode that does not update the media database or
client file indices.

Subject: [Networker] verify media using networker
Is it possible to verify tape media before sending it offsite. This is
something that can be done with Netbackup and Backupexec.
Is there a similar function with networker? If not any recommendations what i
should tell the IT manager to assure them of the tape quality without restoring
all the data - we are migrating some netbackup clients to networker!
Thanks
