The linux machine dies and the backup eventually fails. I am not a linux
guru or oracle for that matter, but when the machine dies, there are no logs
to look at. That's what I'm told. Something about not being able to back
track once the machine is off. We do run Oracle databases on it, and we
don't use the module. Apparantly they've figured out a work around to get
what is needed off of backups because we've had successful DR tests. They so
their own backups with RMAN and copy whatever other files they need, then
networker backs up those. They keep telling me nothing else is going on at
the time of the scheduled backups. Night time is really the only good time
to do them. The machines are being used during the day.

Hello,
Does not seems to be enough information to help you.
Does your Linux machine die on you or your backup fail, have you checked
the logs on the Linux server to see what is happening, you say when you
run it manually during the day the backup is sucessfull, that leads me to
believe either your backup server is getting overloaded during the time
you backup the Linux server or the Linux server is busy for some reason,
try to backup during different time and see if the problem does not occour.
Also are you using any oracle utilities for backup or is it file system
backup, in this case, dont you want to avoid backing up open oracle files ?
Check logs for NIC errors, CPU busy etc to narrow down the time and cause
of it.
Thanks
