I have a tape library that is differential. The library is being moved to a new
server but the SCSI interface on the new server is SE/LVD. The library can be
changed to be a SE/LVD by changing the cabling on the back of it as detailed in
the library documentation.
Is it this simple to change the library to SE/LVD? Are the tape devices in the library engineered to be DIFF or SE/LVD or can they work in either mode. The librayr is a HP Storage Works MX300 and the tape device is HPC1113 m(worm).
SCSI tape drives only work in one mode. They are either HVD or LVD. Do
NOT connect these to the wrong type of interface, you could blow
something up. The clue is in the name, High or Low Voltage.
Some older or low end tape drives are SE (Single Ended) and these can be
connected to an LVD interface, however this brings the entire bus speed
down to SE speeds for all devices on the bus, even if there are other
LVD devices on the same bus.
I think that when a library controller is set to be HVD or LVD/SE it is
simply done by connecting to a different interface internally.
