Jim, thank you so very much for the tip you offered. I haven't tried this tweak yet, but it does sound more promising than any other tip I've got from Sun so far (we bought the Sun-rebranded version of NetWorker called EBS -- Enterprise Backup System, which is essentially identical, except our support calls have to go through Sun).

Again, thanks!

Has anyone encountered something similar? We're running out of ideas!

Andrew,

We had a similar issue last year, backing up windows 2003 clients to a
solaris 10 storage node. After much discussion and escalation with EMC,
they produced the following suggestion which seemed to help in our case. It
involved two registry entries on the windows clients.

Set "TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions" to 5
Set "TcpMaxDataRetransmissions" to 9

Here's where to find them. I also suggest reading the descriptions at the
microsoft site to understand what they do.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
     \SYSTEM
          \CurrentControlSet
               \Services:
                    \Tcpip
                         \Parameters
..
..
..
TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions
Key: Tcpip\Parameters
Value Type: REG_DWORD-number
ValidRange: 0-255 (decimal)
Default: 2

TcpMaxDataRetransmissions
Key: Tcpip\Parameters
Value Type: REG_DWORD-number
Valid Range: 0-0xFFFFFFFF
Default: 5

Hope this helps

Jim
