I am getting on this topic a bit late, have not read all the issues, but, 
if you are missing a schedule, could it be due to browe or retention 
policies, i.e if you set a schedule so far in advance and if the client 
has not had a full in a while, then purged by index cleanup process, would 
you not have  trouble applying FULL or Differential which has to refer the 
last good backup of the named saveset but has been out of index ?
Just my thoughts.
