Given a tape with no other information that it is a 'backup' tape,
how would you 'know' to use Networker to read it, what if it was
written by Netbackup or another backup product ?
Obfuscation tends to be a weak approach to security. A determined
individual might be able to find whatever information is required to
retrieve the data off the backup medium. If an organization has a
tape stolen by a disgruntled (or greedy) IT employee, then that thief
is likely to know exactly what tools are needed in order to recover
the data and may even have enough access to hardware to recover the
data. Of course, now I have opened up a much bigger topic, but you
didn't ask so I won't expound on it.
