Stan, get well soon and get that X4500 deployed so we can hear about it :) Are you currently doing disk-to-disk-to-tape? We are currently doing just disk-to-tape, but have been considering VTLs for a while. With the X4500 we feel we can manage d-d-t on it's own. Also sounds like the X4500 could work
nicely as a VTL.

We are planning to use our X4500 as a second storage node on our tape library and for disk-to-disk-to-tape backup. Its sitting in our staging area waiting for it to be moved to the building where we keep our tape library and I am still awaiting delivery of the HBAs that go with it.

We don't currently do any kind of disk-to-disk-to-anything backups. I do not have plans to deploy our X4500 as a VTL. I am hoping to have it in production by mid-June, so I will definitely post of a review of it. I am glad its getting positive reviews (like from FalconStor) running RH Linux. The fact that FalconStor is using it for a VTL speaks very positively of that system. I am inclined to run Solaris 10 on it, but I am using it as a bit of an experiment to try RH Linux in our NetWorker environment, plus a Linux storage node license costs much less then for Solaris.
